If you don’t live under a rock then you probably know that the U.S. Bouldering Championships were this past weekend at the Spot gym in Boulder. If you paid any attention at all you know Daniel Woods and Alex Johnson crushed hard enough to clench the titles. Their accomplishments are worthy enough to drink to tonight except for the fact that neither one of them are old enough to buy their own alcohol.

Will Stanhope is a name you might know if you’re lucky or a name you won’t know if you’re an poor fool. He’s just a down to earth Canadian that silently crushes along as he travels about the world. He has a super pleasent demeanor and just absolutely owns the things he sets his sights on. Which is why he’s getting WW honors this week. He just made one of the more proud ascents I’ve ever heard of in the single pitch trad realm.

A reader sent this to me today, and I couldn’t help but share it with the rest of you since A) it’s about whiskey, and B) It’s about whiskey triumphing over evil in the fight against killer sofas. Apparently an old blue hair somehow tripped and got trapped by his sofa. He was stuck there for 60 hours. A whiskey bottle rolled within reach and he grabbed it and took a sip.

Josh Wharton is a badass. The man is about as hard as hardmen get and probably one of the best all around climbers in the country. A couple weeks ago, he sent 5.13, v10 and M10, all in ONE WEEK. Any one of those accomplishments would represent a lifetime achievment of most folks. I mean there aren’t many people who have climbed 5.13 v10 and a M10 period, let alone in one week.

Cedar is getting Whiskey Wednesday for a few reasons. First and foremost because he promised to buy me a special tonight at the downer. Beyond that though Cedar has begun teaching me the finer more nuanced parts of the climbing life. I have no idea what it must be like to be a pro climber. The only real clude I have about is that you get to climb a whole lot which I have gotten to do lately since I don’t have a job. Cedar seems to have his shit …

Chris Sharma isn’t a secret. He’s pisses all over projects like he was writing his name in the snow. Sometimes I get sick of hearing all the shit he’s sent. If people wanted they could write a whole magazine that solely covered his ventures and it would still probably get published more times a year than Alpinist. No matter.

Adam Ondra
We watched Sharp End finally. It’s amazing. There’s a section with little tiny awkward Adam Ondra just pissing all over hard routes. The kid seriously crushes. Like. Seriously. I never thought about it really.

I love clipping bolts. I love it almost as much as I love girls, Wu Tang and happy hour. I want to pay tribute to the folks who make putting up sport routes so convenient (seriously, who wants to spend 20 minutes and risk tendinitis on one fucking hole??). Cheers to hammer drills! This week’s WW goes to those who make all that bolt clipping possible. To Bosch, Hilti, Dewalt and everybody else who makes those 36 volt SDS machines of awesomeness, I salute you.
Get drunk and go drill some …

Welcome back kids, Whiskey Wednesday is holdin it down this week with two very deserving recipients. First off we have an original Okla-homie, Steven Charles! Steven is father, husband, friend, climbing partner, and always a great dude to hang with. Many of us have shared ropes with Steven over the years and have always had a good time doing so. This weekend he redpointed the 5.12 of all 5.12es, a little known route in Oklahoma, but for anyone that has climbed this route they most likely judge every other route …
